MOSCOW, Sep 15 (SW) – CSKA Moscow led the way for Russian teams in this evening’s UEFA Cup games as a Daniel Carvalho brace saw off Midtjylland while Lokomotiv Moscow were victorious in Norway.

CSKA Moscow – Midtjylland 3-1

The current holders of the UEFA Cup got their campaign off to a good start with a comfortable first leg victory. Rolan Gusev gave the home side the lead in the 21st minute, but the visitors gave Moscow something to think about when they pulled level just 3 minutes later through Razak Pimpong. The game was wrapped up for Moscow late in the second half when Daniel Carvalho bagged a couple of goals in the 76th and 79th minutes.

SK Brann – Lokomotiv Moscow 1-2

Moscow’s other representative of the evening also scored a victory as a late comeback for Lokomotiv ensured they take 2 away goals back to Russia. Robbie Winters put the Norwegian side ahead just before half time but goals by Francesco Ruopolo (72) and Igor Lebedenko (78) put the visitors in the driving seat for the second leg.

Zenit St Petersburg – AEK Athens 0-0

Neither side managed to gain an advantage for the second leg as the game finished goalless, although AEK kept up their record so far this season by not conceding a goal.
