AACHEN, Dec 20 (SW) - Alemannia Aachen are responsible for what is arguably the biggest upset in the German Cup round of sixteen, eliminating Bayern Munich.
The underdogs ended the first half leading 3-0 thanks to two goals from Laurentiu Aurelian Reghecampf and one from Marius Ebbers.
But Bayern began a comeback after the break. Lukas Podolski scored in the 47th minute and Mark van Bommel added a second in the 69th.
But Aachen refused to allow another and instead netted the decider in added time through Jan Schlaudraff.
Alemannia earned a reputation of 'cupfighters' in the 2003-04 season, when the then 2.Bundesliga team reached the final, to be beaten by Werder Bremen. In the quarter finals that year, the team defeated Bayern Munich.
