CUMBERNAULD, Jan 8 (SW) - Roy Keane and Du Wei both made their debuts against Clyde in the Scottish Cup, only to see their side outplayed and dumped out of the competition in only the third round.

Clyde - Celtic 2-1

Clyde started the game the brighter of the two sides and it showed early on as Celtic debutant Du Wei was outmuscled and outpaced by Tom Brighton - an ex-Rangers youth player. Brighton had the ball in the back of the Celtic goal early in the match but his strike was ruled out for a foul on the Chinese defender.

The underdogs had the ball in the net yet again before the half hour mark when a scramble in front of goal resulted in Alex Williams burying the ball in the net only for his attempt to be ruled offside, although replays show that the linesman's decision was incorrect and the goal should have stood.

Finally the deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when a cross by Edward Malone found the head of Craig Bryson who eventually made it 1-0 to the home side.

Things were made worse for Du Wei just minutes later when he brought Brighton down in the box as once again, the pacey striker eased past the defender. The spot kick was taken by Stephen O'Donnell but a superb one-handed save by Artur Boruc low to his right ensured the score stayed at 1-0.

The 37th minute saw the home side go two goals to the good when a corner from O'Donnell skimmed Du Wei's head and Malone added to his assist for the day by scoring a well hit volley into the top of the Celtic net.

At half time Adam Virgo came on for the hapless Du Wei but his afternoon was almost as bad as the man he replaced when O'Donnell managed to work his way in front of the 22-year-old to smack a header against the base of Boruc's post.

Celtic could have pulled a goal back through Aiden McGeady when Keane found him with a long ball but the striker lost his cool on a one-on-one with Peter Cherrie and put the effort wide of the mark.

Polish international Maciej Zurawski clawed a goal back for Celtic in the 83rd minute with a shot from outside the box. The goal sparked the Bhoys to life as they tried to play the long ball up to the front men to try for a draw at the very least, but the Clyde defence held out for the win and the surprise result of this year's Scottish Cup.
