PARIS (AFP) - Fourth division amateurs Montceau-les-Mines produced a fairytale result when knocking out first division Bordeaux to book their place in the French Cup quarter-finals.

They were joined by Marseille who stunned Lyon - who are now winless in their last four matches - with two late goals to knock the five time champions out at the last 16 stage 2-1.

Montceau won the David and Goliath clash 5-4 on penalties after the two sides ended extra time all square at 2-2.

Three time Cup winners Bordeaux looked all set to prevail having taken a first half lead but the minnows levelled on the stroke of full time and with the two sides still locked together at the end of extra time it was all down to the shoot-out.

Montceau keeper Romain Cretin played a pivotal role in their success, saving spot kicks from Marc Planus and Stephane Dalmat.

´It´s amazing what´s happened to me tonight," said penalty hero Cretin.

"Bordeaux had all the pressure on them here."

Montceau president Jean-Pierre Bailly fought back the tears to pay tribute to his men.

"It´s a crazy team that can go all the way to the final!

"Now we want to meet the winner of the tie between Marseille and Lyon."

If his wish is granted that will be Marseille who went down to an early goal from Lyon´s Cris but hit back in the three final minutes via Mikael Pagis and Mamadou Niang.

"That´s football, great football," beamed Marseille coach Albert Emron.

First division relegation strugglers Nantes put some gloss on their lacklustre season with a 1-0 extra time win over Lille and Lens trounced third division Clermont 4-1.

On Tuesday Paul Le Guen´s Paris Saint Germain kept their Cup run alive with a 1-0 win over Valenciennes, third division Vannes enjoyed a 2-0 extra time victory over second division Montpellier, Sochaux knocked out Monaco by the same scoreline, and Sedan saw off Libourne-Saint-Seurin 2-1.
