GLASGOW (AFP) - Celtic and Scotland midfielder Scott Brown has accused Benfica defender Agustin Binya of trying to break his leg in their Champions league clash here late Tuesday and called on UEFA to take action.

The Cameroon-born player was sent off for the ugly challenge with five minutes to go in a match won 1-0 by the home side, but Brown, while applauding the red card, said that a harsher sanction was in order.

"I'm all right. It was a bad challenge but I've come through it," he said.

Asked for his verdict on the video replay, Brown said: "(It's) shocking. I don't think the guy should ever have done that. He obviously tried to do me as hard as possible."

Brown added that he was left in no doubt that Binya attempted to break his leg.

"Yes I think he did, but I want to fight another day. Hopefully UEFA will deal with it properly. The referee dealt with it very well and sent him off right away."

Brown was forced to limp off the field shortly after the tackle.

The narrow win keeps alive Celtic's hopes of reaching the last 16 of the tournament for the second straight year.
