BIRMINGHAM, May 3 (SW) - Aston Villa failed to secure a spot in next year's UEFA Cup, as the Birmingham outfit crashed to a 0-2 defeat by Wigan.

Both away goals came from Wigan's Valencia, who beat Aston Villa's goalkeeper both in the 52nd and 63rd minute.

With one game to go, Villa have a one-point advantage over seventh-placed Blackburn.
